The Supreme Vegan Pie Awards has been established in 2018 to showcase some of the amazing vegan pies that New Zealand has to offer. Plant-based vegan food has exploded to take centre stage in many New Zealand eateries due to its lower impact on the environment, and its benefits to both human health and animal welfare. Increasingly, vegan food is appreciated in its own right, for using healthy, tasty, clean ingredients, combined in innovative ways. New Zealand’s inaugural vegan pie competition is both cutting edge and classically Kiwi!
We would like to introduce the ‘Commercial Category’ to this year’s competition, to create a more level playing field for companies that don’t produce one off or handmade pies. We are very excited to be able to reflect this growth in the competition and in the market.
Judging will take place at The Butcher's Son for World Vegan Day, Monday 2nd November, at 12 noon.
The Awards Ceremony takes place at 6.30pm, also at The Butcher's Son. Members of the public are invited to join us for an exciting night of pies, pies and more pies! Come along and find out who are the winners.
Industry experts Aaron Pucci, a Master Chef with 23 years of experience and Brad Jacobs, Co Director of the Coffee Club join Emmett Skilton, vegan actor and screen writer to judge this year's entries. The Gluten Free category will be judged by Megan May, owner of Little Bird Cafe in Auckland.
